Placement of the Year Awards
For over a decade The London Clinic has
enjoyed a close relationship with St Bartholomew’s School of
Nursing and Midwifery at City University. Student nurses and
radiographers are regularly placed in clinical departments to gain
practical experience. The London Clinic is proud to be an active
participant in this educational programme with City University
The London Clinic provides student placements
for nursing students at all stages of professional training, from
junior students to those seeking professional registration and
advanced qualifications.
The placements cover all departments and
clinical specialties at the Clinic. Placements are varied to expand
their experience and include time in Theatres, our consultant-led
Intensive Care Unit as well as the inpatient medical and surgical
floors. In addition, students rotate through our outpatient
departments which include endoscopy, endocrinology, dialysis and
radiology.
The unique environment and commitment to
inspired care at The London Clinic provides students with
exceptional learning opportunities. Here they have an opportunity
to work with eminent consultants and professors, to experience
multidisciplinary work teams and to see cutting-edge technology,
like the DaVinci S™ robot and used regularly in practice.
During their time at The London Clinic,
students are encouraged to access the extensive in-house training
programmes that the Clinic offers clinical staff. Students
therefore find themselves learning alongside their qualified
counterparts.
The feedback from students themselves has been
consistently favourable. Very frequently,
the quality of mentorship and the generous
time invested in students by Clinic staff are reported
highlights.
In 2006 The London Clinic participated in City
University’s periodic Quality Assurance review by the Nursing and
Midwifery Council. Two inspectors visited the Clinic and were
highly complimentary of the placement opportunities afforded to
students. The Clinic was instrumental in City University receiving
a commendation in the final report.
In 2008 the Intensive Care Unit at The London
Clinic was a winner in the City University ‘Placement of
the Year Awards’. The criteria for this award
includes:
- how welcome students feel at the
hospital
- the level of support students received from
mentors
- the level of innovation to improve and
enhance the student experience
Most importantly, the nominations are made by
the students themselves.
The London Clinic prides itself on the strong
relationship it has with St Bartholomew’s School of Nursing and
Midwifery and the quality of pre-registration education it
provides. Our commitment to excellence in healthcare practice
today, provides an excellent foundation for the healthcare
professionals of tomorrow.
