The London Clinic has today announced it is has been awarded
planning permission from Westminster City Council to build a
state-of-the-art cancer treatment centre in the heart of London’s
Harley Street medical community.
The 7,500m2 building, at the site of 60-62 Marylebone High Street
and 21-22 Devonshire Place, will comprise 47 individual bedrooms
and 22 day care pods in a modern purpose-built environment. It will
provide radiotherapy, chemotherapy, transplant and other
specialised haematology/oncology facilities.
Malcolm Miller, Chief Executive of The London Clinic, says: “We are
proud to announce the commencement of this project to create a
dedicated centre at the forefront of cancer treatment and care. The
Centre will embrace new progressive treatments and allow us to
continue to lead the way in the field of cancer services.”
Demolition of the existing site has been underway since May and
bulldozers are expected to pull out by the end of October.
Progression to the next stage of construction - building the
basement level, which will house the latest technology in
radiotherapy - will start in December. Completion is anticipated in
2009.
Malcolm Miller adds: "The Harley Street area is world-renowned for
medicine and our new development can only enhance this reputation.
More importantly, the centre will provide more choice and
outstanding facilities for cancer patients and their families,
alongside the excellence in individual patient care that the Clinic
is renowned for providing.”
