The London Clinic supports DoH campaign on bowel cancer

29 January 2012

The London Clinic welcomes the new Department of Health campaign, Be Clear on Cancer, to promote earlier diagnosis of bowel cancer.

Bowel cancer is one of the biggest causes of cancer death in the UK, yet over 90% of bowel cancer patients diagnosed with the disease will survive five years from diagnosis if it is detected early.

Mr Alistair Windsor, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at The London Clinic, says “It is vital that the public, particularly those aged 55 plus, who are at a higher risk, understand how to identify the potentially serious symptoms of bowel cancer, which is why the new government campaign is so important. Presenting earlier to GPs means a prompt referral for further investigation, earlier diagnosis, and treatment if necessary, providing that person with the best possible chance of survival.”

The London Clinic offers a comprehensive bowel health service including screening by Faecal Occult Blood test (FOBt), flexible sigmoidoscopy, CT (virtual) colonography and endoscopy/colonoscopy, with leading experts and the latest technology and equipment. For patient the Clinic also offers colon cancer screening on Saturday mornings.
