The da Vinci® Surgical System at The
London Clinic
Laparoscopic radical prostatectomy
At The London Clinic, we integrate state-of-the-art technology with
the skill of experienced surgeons which allows us to carry out
extremely precise surgery through tiny surgical openings (‘ports’
or ‘keyholes’).

The da Vinci® Surgical System is the latest
advancement in robotic-assisted technology which enables our
surgeons to treat prostate cancer by removing the prostate
laparoscopically (through keyhole surgery). For the majority of
patients, this could mean less pain and blood loss following
surgery and a faster recovery compared to conventional open
surgery. Recent studies also suggest that the da Vinci
prostatectomy may reduce the risk of urinary incontinence and
erectile dysfunction following surgery.
Why choose the London Clinic?
The da Vinci® Surgical System has been successfully used in
thousands of prostate procedures world-wide. However, our ‘robot’
at The London Clinic - affectionately known as ‘Leonardo’ - is one
of only a few currently available in the UK.
All of our urology robotic surgeons have received extensive
training under the guidance of the world’s leading consultants,
including those at the famous Henry Ford Hospital (USA), Hackensack
University Medical Centre (USA), Cornell University Medical Centre
(NYC) and the European Surgery Institute in Paris.
‘Leonardo’ is housed in our new state-of-the-art operating
theatre, which opened at the end of November 2005. This theatre,
the Clinic’s largest, has been purpose-built with modern facilities
to accommodate robotic surgery as well as all other specialties
currently undertaken.
